Design Playground: Seriously playful furniture with unique personality and provocative appeal...

The Rainbow Bench - A friend to and portrait of collaboration. Six of the planks on each bench are on dowels and interchangeable so the look and feel between many colours and benches can be played with and transformed at will. Rainbow Benches are multifunctional and can be used as studio desks, meeting spaces, bars, catwalks and performance floors. Metaphorically the struts represent two people with their feet on the ground and colour connecting them through hands and heads from the central heart. Rainbow Benches are available in a variety of colours and finishes.

the Muse Desk - A friend to and portrait of the creative mind. The drawers are labelled with everything the creative mind might need - from beauty to wisdom, curiosity to perseverance, humour to fortune - and hidden inside is 'courage' in the form of a minibar and library, and a pull out seating area.

In October 2012 following five years of development their design company 'Design Playground' was launched at the Nhow Milan as part of the'Portraits' exhibition whereby they were one of nine international artists and nine international designers invited to change the face of the iconic Design Hotel for a five month period...

The focus of Design Playground is to collaborate with the highest quality manufacturers, studios and commissioning partners to establish “seriously playful” furniture with unique personality and provocative appeal. Design Playground works are metaphorical portraits reflecting the design process and communicating unique spirit. Each piece is created to tell a story and to act as medicine to inspire and refresh the creative mind.

Yashmit comments “Design Playground is about fun. It is created to establish the showstopper, and to reveal experiences that make people smile, and say ‘I have found what I am looking for’.”

Yashmit Amin  made the decision to become a designer at the age of ten, when he found using a pencil was more fun than a pen, and that it bugged his parents who wanted him to be a lawyer, accountant or doctor. After studying at Brighton and Melbourne universities, Yashmit joined Tsunami where he worked for seven years before setting up his own business. An inimitable sense of fun, ambiance and attention to detail is evident in all his work, attracting some of the world’s most recognised purveyors of quality, and Yashmit has worked on projects for names such as Elton John, James Dyson, Hasslebaink, Suzanne Mizzi, and also theatrical directors, leading restaurateurs and CEOs of blue chip companies. “I love the bespoke method of tailoring my work to the customer brief. I love giving them individuality and truly celebrating the chance to be creative whilst appreciating the choice of the client to allow me to be creative. Whilst I do not limit myself to a style as such, I like to leave people with an edge of curiosity…”.
